Peruvian president urges national unity in fight against financial crisis

Special Report:Global Financial Crisis

LIMA, Dec. 15 (Chinese media) -- All business sectors and governments of all

levels across Peru must be united in 2009 to combat the international financial

crisis, President Alan Garcia said Monday.

"There is a war to fight," said Garcia. "We have to work ... against

uncertainties and doubts" to avoid being hit hard by the crisis.

He called on all Peruvians to "aim at the same target" of stopping the

financial crisis and not waste time on small issues.

The Peruvian president unveiled a stimulus package last week in a bid to

help the country weather the global economic downturn.

The package includes measures to increase spending on social works and

infrastructure by 3.3 billion U.S. dollars and to finalize 3 billion dollars in

previously signed loans.

In a televised speech on Dec. 8, Garcia said another 7 billion dollars

would be introduced to reinforce public expenditures if necessary.
