S.Korean president urges aggressive fiscal policy

SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Chinese media) -- South Korean President Lee Myung-bakon Sunday

ordered his Cabinet make out aggressive fiscal plans to help reinvigorate the

slumping economy, said Lee's spokesman.

"President Lee instructed related ministries to immediately carry out

projects that can be started in December," presidential spokesman Lee Dong-kwan

told reporters.

The president made the remarks when presiding an emergency meeting of top

government officials, including Prime Minister Han Seung-soo, on Sunday to

discuss next year's budget spending plan.

The South Korean National Assembly approved on Saturday a 284.5-trillion

won (207 billion U.S. dollars) government budget for 2009,which is 10.6 percent

up from 2008, with the main focus placed on creating jobs and providing

assistance to the underprivileged people.
