Nikkei closes 0.56% higher

TOKYO, Jan. 28 (Chinese media) -- Tokyo stocks closed mixed Wednesday with the key Nikkei index up 0.56 percent.



The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average advanced 45.22 points to 8,106.29.

The broader Topix index, however, fell 1.16 points, or 0.14 percent, to 804.33.

Value leader Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group gained 6 yen, or more than 1 percent, to 503 yen while volume leader Mizuho Financial Group was up 3 yen, or more than 1 percent, to 233 yen.

Trading volume on the main section shrank to 1,902.64 million shares from 2,046.62 million Tuesday.

On the First Section, declining issues outnumbered advancing ones 812 to 755, with 141 others remaining unchanged.

The TSE's Second Section index increased 4.96 points, or 0.26 percent, to 1,896.15 on a volume of 17.42 million shares.

On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term March Nikkei 225 index futures contract rose 30 points to 8,110.
