Canada announces funding to boost airport service

OTTAWA, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Canada will invest nearly 358.7 million Canadian dollars (306 million U. S. dollars) over 2009-10 to boost the security and efficiency at airports around the country, Revenue Minister Jean-Pierre Blackburn announced Tuesday.

Most of the funding will go to improving airport screening operations, including money for hiring additional screening officers and for X-ray units at airports in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg.

Some funding will also be spent on portable security devices for the Olympics and Paralympics for the 2010 Vancouver Games, the minister said at a press conference in Montreal.
