London stock market remains lower

LONDON, Dec. 24 (Chinese media) -- The London stock market remained lower at midday on Wednesday as investor confidence was dampened by yet another victim of recession.

Music and games retailer Zavvi went into administration shortly after tea and coffee chain Whittard of Chelsea was pronounced bust on Tuesday.

The FTSE 100 index dropped 17.63 points, or 0.41 percent, by midday to 4238.39 in the last half day trading before Christmas.

BT Group was down by 4.43 percent while medical firm Smith Nephew dropped 4.52 percent.
