Tokyo stocks open lower on Wall Street overnight fall

TOKYO, Dec. 16 (Chinese media) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower Tuesday on the overnight fall on Wall Street.

In the first 15 minutes of trading, the benchmark 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 133.77 points, or 1.54 percent, from Monday to 8,530.89.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 14.71 points, or 1.74 percent, to 832.22. The Second Section also lost ground.

Stocks declined almost across the board, led by mining and consumer finance issues. Only the sea transport issues gained.
