BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Chinese media) -- Chinese shares opened higher on the first trading day of 2009, with the benchmark
Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, gaining 1.55 percent
to 1,849.02 at the opening.
The smaller Shenzhen index was up 1.11 percent to
open at 6,557.42 points.
