Petrobras' projects to be re-evaluated

RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 22 (Chinese media) -- All the projects of Petrobras, Brazil's state-owned oil and gas giant, are being re-examined due to the international financial crisis, announced the company's CEO Jose Sergio Gabrielli Monday.

There will be no change in Petrobras' scheduled public bidding processes in the short term, said Gabrielli.

However, he did not say for sure that the new projects' operations will be maintained.

"We will not accept high costs... (and as) we do not know when or how much (prices will fall), we will not contract equipment at its higher prices."

Gabrielli confirmed the possibility of suspending certain orders, if he considers them to be too high in costs.

He denied any renegotiations on the contracts for the construction of 12 drills to be used in the Tupi area.

The CEO said that Petrobras does not intend to lower prices of gasoline and diesel in Brazil despite the recent plunge in the oil prices at the international market.

On Friday, Petrobras postponed for the fifth time the release of its 2009-2013 business plan.

According to a statement released by the company, the Board of Directors could not properly analyze the plan due to "the uncertainties and the volatility at several markets."

The analysis of the plan will be resumed in January.
