Study: Weak pound to boost Britain's tourism industry

LONDON, Dec. 23 (Chinese media) -- Many Britons are reconsidering their overseas

holidays in favor of domestic destinations while foreign tourists are finding

Britain an attractive option due to the weakening pound sterling, according to

an official study released Tuesday.

Over the festive fortnight, 9.8 million Britons, or about 21 percent of the

population, are planning an overnight trip in their own country, according to

national tourism agency Visit Britain.

The weak pound, meanwhile, is attracting visitors from the eurozone and

United States.

Amanda Smyth, head of the agency's England marketing department, said given

the current situation, a holiday trip within the country "can easily rival

overseas destinations."

Tourists can expect a wealth of special offers in the coming year, ranging

from accommodations to attractions around the nation, she added.
