Hong Kong stocks finish 2.91% higher at midday

HONG KONG, March 11 (Chinese media) -- Hong Kong stocks rebounded sharply at opening but trimmed the gains to 340.72 points, or 2.91 percent, to end Wednesday's morning session at 12,034.77, tracking Wall Street's sharp advance overnight.

Encouraged by Wall Street's broad rally overnight, the benchmark Hang Seng Index surged 534.17 points, or 4.57 percent, to open at half-day high 12,228.22 but trimmed its gains at one moment during the morning session to half-day lowest 12,001.48, barely holding above the key 12,000 mark.

Half-day turnover totaled 25.54 billion HK dollars (3.3 billion U.S. dollars).
