London's daily equity trades down 30% year-on-year in January

LONDON, Feb. 6 (Chinese media) -- The London Stock Exchange Group announced here on Friday that its average daily number of equity trades was 881,609 in the first month of this year, down by 30 percent year-on-year.

The average daily value traded during the month was 6.2 billion pounds (9.1 billion U.S. dollars), representing a decrease of 60 percent compared to the record set in January 2008.

A total of 18.5 million equity trades were carried out across the electronic order books of the Exchange during January this year, with a combined value of 129.8 billion pounds (190.8 billion U.S. dollars).

The UK order book saw a total of 13.3 million trades during the month, with a combined value of 90.8 billion pounds (133.5 billion dollars).

There were 4.5 million trades in Italian equities during the month, and the total value traded was 36.1 billion euros (46.5 billion dollars).

There were 779,216 electronic trades in international equities across the two exchanges' markets in January, with a combined value of 6.6 billion pounds (9.7 billion dollars).

Growth in ETF (exchange traded fund) and ETC (exchange traded commodities) trading remained good, with the average daily number of trades up 2 percent over the January 2008 figure to reach 9,069,while the average daily value traded increased 9 percent to 276.8 million pounds (406.9 million dollars).
